120 Rural youth Skilled and awarded Certification
Tirupati, 20th April, 2017: Taking forward its commitment towards skill development in rural areas and providing the youth with the means for a sustainable living, Amara Raja Skill Development Centre today conferred diplomas in “Multi Skilled Technician” to 120 students during the convocation ceremony of its 5th batch at Amara Raja Auditorium, Karakambadi, Tirupati.
The batch comprising both girls and boys from rural background received the certificates at a ceremony, held in presence of the Amara Raja Group Founder & Chairman – Dr. Ramachandra N Galla, Mr. Jaikrishna. B, President – Group HR, Corporate Communications & New Business Development, Viswanathan. M, Dean of the Centre and management team members of Amara Raja Group. Parents of the graduating students were also present on the occasion. Mr. B. Santhanam, President and MD, Flat Glass – South Asia, Malaysia & Egypt, Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Ltd. graced the event as the Chief Guest and delivered the convocation address.
During the convocation, Dr. Ramachandra N Galla, said, “It’s a proud day for all of us assembled here. I am confident that the graduating students will make this institution and their parents proud. This course will not only help them in their career growth, but will also make them confident individuals. I would like to congratulate all the graduating students and the faculty at ARSDC. The eighteen months skill development course at ARSDC aims to help youngsters acquire and enrich their technical and life skills. It will also add value to their role in the society and help them earn their livelihood through various employment opportunities.”
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Mr. Santhanam said “Amara Raja Group has been contributing a lot towards the future of the Indian youth. Through these skill development programs, they are also inspiring budding talents in the local communities. India has got some extraordinary talent, which must be nurtured and provided with the best possible opportunities to excel in the competitive society.” While delivering his speech, Mr. Santhanam also lauded the efforts of the faculty and staff of the Centre towards enhancing employability of the rural youth.
The merit based residential course is free of cost which focuses on skill and personality development. ARSDC has the latest infrastructure, well equipped class rooms and labs. The institute encompasses mechanical fitting shops, machine shops, welding shops, electrical labs, electronics labs and computer labs. Specially designed curriculum is developed by ARSDC with the inputs from industry to bridge the skill gap. The ‘Multi Skilled Technicians Course’ is 18 months long (9 months training at ARSDC and 9 months on the job training in the Industry. Students get stipend during the on the job training for 9 months. 557 students have been placed in Amara Raja Group Industries on permanent rolls from Batch-1 to Batch-5. The campus also has playgrounds, a separate hostel for boys and girls with adequate capacity.
Amara Raja Skill Development Centre (ARSDC), a flagship Skill Development Centre is run by the Rajanna Trust, which is under the patronage of the Amara Raja Group, started functioning from 17th July 2014. ARSDC was started with the sole aim of enhancing the employability of the rural youth by developing their technical and life skills through innovative method of training on technical and soft skills. The facility was started by the Amara Raja Group with an investment of around 30 crores at Pettamitta, Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The Skill development course prepared for the students focuses not only on technical skills, but also lays its emphasis on making students better team players and respectable disciplined citizens. To fulfill this aim, the program emphasizes on various games and sports, such as football, volleyball, basketball, chess, yoga and various other physical and mental capability-building exercises. The course was designed taking into consideration the background, qualifications of the rural youth and the requirements of the Industry. Moving forward in line with the Skill initiative, the Amara Raja Group is committed to developing skilled resources that would contribute to the development of the Nation and in turn give the rural youth an opportunity to channelize their talent.
